SCA Cladding shingles
SCA’s cladding shingles are sawn from quality-sorted Swedish timber and manufactured according to Swedish craftsmanship traditions.
Cladding shingles
Our cladding shingles are available in heat-treated northern contorta and heartwood from northern Swedish pine. The shingles are wedge-shaped, ranging from 5 to 18 mm from the thinnest to the thickest edge, and are available in widths from 70 to 200 mm.
The heat treatment ensures the shingles maintain their shape. Heat-treated shingles are warm brown upon delivery and gracefully turn gray over time. When correctly installed, they have a long lifespan without added chemicals.
- The shingles are made from 100% sound knot-sorted pine from environmentally certified forestry.
- Heat-treated wood, through the ThermoWood® process, has a very low moisture content and absorbs less moisture than regular wood, increasing shape stability by up to 50%, which minimizes shingle warping.
- ThermoWood® facade shingles are a warm brown upon delivery and gradually develop a beautiful gray patina over time. The brown color is solely due to the heat treatment, with no added dyes.
- The ThermoWood® treatment makes the wood evenly colored, allowing for easy processing or splitting without noticeable color variations.
- Properly installed facade shingles have a long lifespan without added chemicals, as the heat treatment removes the wood’s nutrients, making it difficult for rot and fungi to take hold and grow.
- Heat-treated shingles can be oiled or painted like a regular wood panel if desired.
- ThermoWood® can be delivered with fire protection class B-S1,d0 if required.
- Heat-treated wood is brittle; pre-drilling is recommended during installation.
- Fastening should be done with stainless acid-resistant (A4) screws.
- Heartwood pine is sourced from the hardest and innermost core of slow-growing pines.
- Heartwood pine facade shingles are naturally pine-colored upon delivery and gradually develop a beautiful silver-gray patina over time.
- Properly installed facade shingles have a long lifespan without added chemicals, as heartwood pine contains high levels of resin and tannin, making it resistant to rot and fungi.
- Heartwood pine shingles can be oiled or painted like a regular wood panel if desired.
- Heartwood pine can be delivered with fire protection class B-S1,d0 if required.
- Fastening should be done with stainless acid-resistant ring shank nails in corrosion resistance class A4.

A wood shingle facade made from SCA's northern Swedish raw material is long-lasting. Depending on placement, installation, and surface maintenance, the wall shingles can last over 50 years. Shingle facades that start close to the ground have a shorter lifespan, as they are more susceptible to rot, and the lower layers should be designed for easy replacement
