Fire-Protected Wood

SCA offers fire-protected cladding panels and battens for outdoor use. The challenge with exterior fire protection is ensuring that the fire rating remains intact over time and is not affected by outdoor conditions. Regardless of whether spruce or pine is being treated, both the fire protection and the visual appearance must be preserved. The fire protection used by SCA is durable over time and meets the requirements of service class EXT according to EN 16755 – Durability of reaction to fire performance. This means the product has passed fire safety requirements after accelerated aging tests.

Fire-retardant impregnated battens and cladding panels from SCA SmartTimber provide a CE-certified, reliable solution for a fire-protected facade. Through its partners, SCA offers fire protection that meets the highest Euroclass for fire-retardant wood, B-s1,d0 according to EN 13501.

Fire-retardant impregnation is performed using a vacuum process to ensure deep penetration of the treatment into the wood. This means that no maintenance of the fire protection is required to retain its effect over time. However, the painted surface layer above the fire protection should be maintained according to the paint manufacturer's recommendations. SCA also offers fire protection that does not require additional surface treatment, making it suitable for heartwood pine facades where a natural greying effect is desired. Fire impregnation allows for sawing, cutting, and wear without compromising the fire protection. The fire-retardant impregnation is available in two variants:

• SCA FirePro: Fire-retardant impregnation for painted cladding and weather-protected structures.
• SCA FireX: No overpainting required.
