SCA Aquila Garden concept

Build your complete outdoor project with our heartwood pine – naturally dimensionally stable and resistant to rot.

We introduce the SCA Aquila Garden Concept in heartwood – your new best friend for all outdoor projects. Imagine building your dream deck entirely from heartwood: decking, fences, flower boxes, benches, and outdoor kitchens. Let your next project be a tribute to both functionality and aesthetics with heartwood as your material of choice.

SCA's heartwood pine comes from slow-grown northern Swedish pine with a very high heartwood content.

• All wood is X-rayed to ensure it consists of at least 99% heartwood.
• Naturally resistant to rot, fungi, and pests.
• Requires no treatment or oiling to extend its lifespan.
• Develops an even and beautiful silver-grey patina over time.
• Sourced from forests certified according to FSC® and PEFC standards.

Beautifully grey over time

SCA Aquila becomes even more beautiful as time passes. When you purchase heartwood pine decking, it has a light, natural wood tone that gradually turns grey. The duration of this process depends on environmental and weather conditions, but it typically takes a few months to a couple of years to achieve a silver-grey patina.

During the greying process, some surface growth may appear around objects like flower pots. This can be easily removed by cleaning with soap and water.

Fiber fuzz

Freshly sawn wood exposed to outdoor conditions naturally turns grey within one to two years. The sun’s UV radiation primarily breaks down lignin in the wood surface. A natural phenomenon that can occur on all types of wood is known as fluffing (fiber fuzz), which is part of the wood’s natural aging process.

This occurs when the outermost lignin, which binds the wood fibers together, deteriorates. Lignin acts as a kind of “glue” between fibers. As the sun gradually breaks it down, fluffing may develop more quickly in areas with high sun exposure. When wood remains damp for extended periods, the outer layer of fibers can loosen and detach, typically in early spring. These appear as very fine fibers that come off, leaving the underlying wood intact.

Fluffing does not affect the wood’s resistance to rot or its structural integrity and diminishes over time. On untreated decking and cladding from SCA, it can easily be brushed away with a soft brush.
