With quality and durability in mind

  • Article

At SCA Wood Scandinavia in Tunadal, Daniel Haglund is in charge of the painting department. The production pace is high, but he never compromises on quality. "I want to deliver a great product," says Daniel.

Every day, approximately 7,000 boards pass through the painting facility in Tunadal to be primed and mid-coated. The entire process is overseen by painting operator Daniel Haglund and his two colleagues – a job that requires great precision.

Certification with strict requirements

The products leaving the painting facility hold a CMP certification (Certified Painted Panel), which sets high standards for quality control. And it all starts with the raw material, which is carefully inspected before entering the painting booth:

"We check for pressure marks and knot holes", says Daniel.

Then it's time for painting. Each board is weighed and measured before entering the painting booth to ensure the exact amount of paint is applied. The correct spray nozzle is selected, and the speed is adjusted for a flawless result. After passing through the painting booth, the board is weighed again – all to ensure the paint quantity is precisely right. Finally, it goes through the drying process before being packed and shipped for delivery.

Sustainable in multiple ways

So, what makes these products particularly smart? Daniel’s answer comes quickly:

"The durability and quality of having a pre-painted product! It lasts longer."

A perfectly pre-painted board means better quality and increased durability. But there are more aspects of sustainability when it comes to SCA Wood’s painted products, Daniel explains:

"During the painting process, excess paint is collected in a tray and pumped back into the paint container for reuse. The paint is filtered twice to remove wood chips and other impurities."

In practice, this means the paint can be reused indefinitely without waste, reducing environmental impact.

With quality in mind

According to Daniel, his role requires dedication, precision, and strict adherence to quality controls.

"I want to deliver a great product", he says firmly.

That’s also when he feels especially proud in his profession:

"When I can say, "This turned out really well!" when the boards have gone through the entire process without any issues. That happens very often", he says with satisfaction.

It's easy to imagine that Daniel’s keen eye for quality and detail could be valuable in many other fields. So, if he weren’t working as a painting operator, what would he be doing instead?

"There’s no such plan, Daniel laughs. I love it here!"
