Petra Nyborg.

Colorful, Cozy, and Sustainable

In Utgård, just outside Östersund, stands a magnificent turn-of-the-century house. For decades, the house has stood peacefully in place, surrounded by the Indalsälven River and rolling fields. But inside, as usual, there is full activity.

Living in the house are Petra Nyborg, her partner, their three children, and two cats. Six years ago, the family bought the house, which is close to the lake Storsjön. Since then, the family has been renovating to create their dream home.

- We moved in sometime around New Year's, and the house had previously only been used as a vacation home, so when we finally turned on the heating, there was a bit of suspense. But it all worked out, says Petra, laughing.

Silver-colored heart pine with many advantages

When we visit Petra, Utgård is showing its best side, with bright sunshine, green meadows, and birds chirping. Smiling, Petra takes us out onto the large deck, which is built from SCA's heart pine decking.

- This is one of my favorite spots in the house, especially this time of year. The decking turned out incredibly beautiful, soft to walk on, and the silver-colored sheen that the heart pine develops over time blends so well with the environment and the other wooden furniture, says Petra.

Petra, who has a real passion for renovating houses, loves building with wood and appreciates how the material adds warmth to the house and its interior.

- Wood as a material is very forgiving and doesn’t have many limitations. You can do a lot yourself since the material is so easy to work with. If you have a saw, sandpaper, and some nails, you can go quite far, Petra explains.
