Sustainability
Building with wood contributes to a sustainable future, since trees capture carbon dioxide. That carbon dioxide is then stored in wood products and buildings throughout their entire lifespan.
We maximize the value of each log
For us, it’s only natural that a climate-smart product should be made in a climate-smart industry. For generations, we at SCA have refined the art of producing sawn wood products from the forests of northern Sweden, using both spruce and pine.
That’s why we continuously work to develop our high-tech production facilities and optimize the use of our resources — all to maximize the benefits of our products for both our customers and the climate.

Our EPDs
Our EPDs provide a comprehensive overview of our entire value chain. From forest to sawmill to customer, we can trace the climate impact of our wood products every step of the way.

For us, wood is the obvious choice
We report the climate impact of our products in carbon dioxide equivalents (GWP-fossil), a standardized metric that makes it easy to compare different materials.
0.9Kg CO2 eq/m2
Unpainted wooden facade 9.5Kg CO2 eq/m2
Fibre cement cladding board 14Kg CO2 eq/m2

100 million seedlings
Every year, SCA delivers around 100 million seedlings. Approximately half of them are planted in SCA's own forests, and the remaining are sold to other forest owners. For every tree harvested to become sawn timber, paper products, and other sustainable goods, two to three new trees are planted. This contributes to our Swedish forests growing more than what we harvest.
Growing forests are a crucial part of the fight against climate change due to the forest's ability to absorb carbon dioxide. In 2021, the net uptake in SCA's forests alone was a staggering 5.4 million tons.
Our climate footprint
With SCA's own EPDs, a thorough mapping of our entire value chain, from the forest, via the sawmill and out to the customer, we today have a firm grasp of the climate footprint of our sawn wood products. This not only enables us to work systematically towards our sustainability goals but also helps the construction industry choose building materials with minimal climate impact for tomorrow's buildings.
Feel free to use our EPDs. As our customer, you can incorporate the information into your life cycle analysis tools or include it as environmental data for your products.

Improvement down the generations
For every tree harvested, at least two are planted – and these are super seedlings. After all, they have been bred by crossing the very finest trees going back generations.

Products & Services
We naturally strive to improve and think long-term. We practice responsible forestry, caring for the ecosystems where our resources grow. That’s why we've named our products after the wildlife of the northern forests as a tribute.
