- SUSTAINABILITY
Sustainability
Thanks to the trees' ability to absorb carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, all construction using wood contributes to a more sustainable future. This is because the carbon once captured by the trees continues to be stored in our long-lasting wood products and remains encapsulated in and on buildings for generations to come.
We maximize the value of each log
For us, it goes without saying that a climate-smart product must be manufactured by a climate-smart industry. Therefore, we are constantly working to make our facilities and the use of our resources more efficient. To make the benefit of our products as significant as possible for both our customers and our climate.
100 million seedlings
Every year, SCA delivers around 100 million seedlings. Approximately half of them are planted in SCA's own forests, and the remaining are sold to other forest owners. For every tree harvested to become sawn timber, paper products, and other sustainable goods, two to three new trees are planted. This contributes to our Swedish forests growing more than what we harvest.
Growing forests are a crucial part of the fight against climate change due to the forest's ability to absorb carbon dioxide. In 2021, the net uptake in SCA's forests alone was a staggering 5.4 million tons.
Our climate footprint
With SCA's own EPDs, a thorough mapping of our entire value chain, from the forest, via the sawmill and out to the customer, we today have a firm grasp of the climate footprint of our sawn wood products. This not only enables us to work systematically towards our sustainability goals but also helps the construction industry choose building materials with minimal climate impact for tomorrow's buildings.
Feel free to use our EPDs. As our customer, you can incorporate the information into your life cycle analysis tools or include it as environmental data for your products.
